November 30 – December 21, 2018
It was my first time on the South Island and I had been itching to get there for a few years. My nearly three week trip wasn’t even close to enough time, and I can’t wait to go back. Having said that, I think my itinerary was fairly well balanced, and I’ve already had a friend who has copied part of it for their recent South Island vacation. I took the train from Christchurch to Kaikoura and on to Picton, and from there I picked up a car and hit the road. It was early December, and I was lucky that I only had to plan a couple of days in advance to get accommodation, so I tried to keep it a fairly flexible itinerary. I was able to add a little more detail on this one, so you can see most of the hikes and activities that I did while on the South Island as well!
