The Fletcher Street Urban Riding Club showcases the beauty of a forgotten world tucked away in the midst of a bustling metropolis. I was lucky enough to attend a photography workshop, where members of this unique equestrian community, based in the heart of North Philadelphia, displayed the powerful bond between horse and rider as they traversed the streets of Old City, Philadelphia. Against this urban backdrop, the riders’ passion shines through, revealing a strong sense of community and a connection to nature rarely seen in an urban environment. It was a fun morning of photography, which could only have been made better with more opportunity to engage with the riders themselves.
The workshop started off in Old City, where the photography participants eagerly awaited the arrival of the riders. After a short break, the riders, followed by a gaggle of photographers, took to the streets, headed towards the gardens behind Carpenter’s Hall. It must have been quite a sight.
What a pleasure to spend time with amazing humans, who gave their time to be photographed by such a huge gaggle of people…
